Claude Monet also known as Oscar-Claude Monet or Claude Oscar Monet (November 14, 1840 "“ December 5, 1926) was a French impressionist painter and the founder and central figure of the 19th century art named as such -- Impressionism. Early on, Monet painted realistic landscapes, later focused on the effect of changing light on everyday objects. He often painted multiple studies of the same subjects including his most famous water lilies. During the Franco-Prussian War (1870-71) Monet fled from Paris to England, where he formed friendships with Camille Pisarro, Auguste Renoir and other figures central to Impressionism. At the end of the war, he returned to Paris settling in Giverny, where he began a long series of paintings of grainstacks (1890s). During this time, his works sold well and his financial success allowed him to purchase property in Giverny, where he built his garden subject which provided him the subject of his series Water Lilies (1906-26). Along with his other works, Monet's paintings have become some of the most recognized paintings in the world.Umbrella, 43" arc, folding, closes to a mere 11", polyester cover, wooden finger grip handle with engraved signature
